GET TO KNOW ME
GET TO KNOW ME
I was born and raised in New Zealand, a breathtakingly beautiful island in the Pacific. Many people are familiar with the pristine scenery (thank you, Lord of the Rings) but fewer people know that New Zealand also has a rich history of strong women (it was the first country where women earned the right to vote!). I was fortunate to be raised surrounded by such women, my own mother and grandmother among them. I was taught, mentored, befriended, guided, and loved by fierce women. These souls who influenced me where not all the same; they were from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, stages of life, socioeconomic classes. With their wide range of ideals and lifestyles one thing remained consistent: each of these women showed me the vital importance of compassion and community. By the time I left for the states when I was 16 these were well established core values in my life.
I attended a small Bible college in West Virginia where I earned my BA in Theology. During those years I was increasingly drawn to birth work; having grown up in NZ I was familiar with midwives, and after further researching midwifery I knew that it was for me. So, in the spring of 2012 my husband and I moved to FL so I could attend midwifery school.
I attended the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery in Gainesville, FL. For three years I lived and breathed midwifery, working directly under experienced midwives caring for hundreds of women during their pregnancies and births. Also, during my time as a student midwife I gave birth to my own son at home. After graduating from FSTM I sat my exams becoming a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and was licensed by the state of Florida (LM).
Since then I have had the privilege to work at an excellent birth center in Jacksonville and am now pursuing my “true love” which is home based midwifery and homebirth.
My vision is to partner with women and their families on a personal level and provide safe, empowering midwifery care and support during pregnancy, birth, and beyond. This is achieved through intentional and individualized, mother-led care in the home setting
Any woman can make it through the journey of life alone, but I genuinely believe that we can thrive when we journey together with compassion and companionship. As your midwife you are in my care for a short period of time, but a powerful and life-changing time all the same.
